Patrick Hutton

For Patrick Hutton, interior design has been part of his life since childhood. Raised in Florida, he grew up around the construction and design industries, with a contractor father and early opportunities to help select finishes, arrange furniture and assist with model homes.

“I was born with it,” Patrick said. “I’ve wanted to do it since I was little. I would rearrange the furniture in my parents’ house.”

Patrick studied at the Southwest Florida Institute of Interior Design and began his career working for a designer in Naples before expanding his experience in merchandising, including fashion merchandising, which helped sharpen his eye for color, texture and presentation.

Before joining Gorman’s, Patrick spent seven years with Robb & Stucky, where he continued developing his expertise in high-end furnishings and client-focused design. After moving to Michigan, he found Gorman’s to be a natural fit for his experience and approach.

Patrick’s personal style is eclectic, with a mix of mid-century modern and Art Deco influences. He appreciates clean lines, warmth, depth and pieces that bring a sense of richness to a room without making it feel cold.

When working with clients, Patrick begins by learning their needs, expectations, style and lifestyle. He often encourages clients to gather inspiration from Pinterest, magazines or favorite spaces, even if it is just one detail, color or piece that speaks to them.

“I always ask if there are any antiques or family pieces that need to stay,” Patrick said. “It’s important to work with them and put them into the design.”

For Patrick, communication, scale and function are essential. Whether a client has children, pets, family heirlooms, an active entertaining lifestyle or a favorite place to put their feet up on Sunday, he believes every detail should support the way they truly live.

“Bringing their thoughts to life, bringing form and function and a sense of calm, that’s what I enjoy,” Patrick said.
