“People do not know what we can do to a room,” Kim Carrier said.
Designers think of things in terms that the average person doesn’t think about, she said, and she enjoys the process, evolving a client’s space to become comfortable and functional, a “true expression of their lifestyle.”
“That’s what inspires me most,” she said, “is their happiness.”
With a father in construction and a mother in antiques, Kim grew up in design and studied it herself. She taught history for several years before launching her career; she began with doing floor layouts for La-Z-Boy, then moved to Ethan Allen, before opening her own studios to offer custom draperies, furniture, and room design. She now has more than 20 years in the business and has been with Gorman’s for 5 years.
