Interior Designer Deborah Johnston specializes in the use of color and perspective to add depth to her creations.
She strives to understand what clients like, and more importantly what they don’t like, to design their space with purpose. Balancing aesthetics and functionality helps her clients visualize the impact of color, especially saturated hues that can add drama.
“They feed me their vision and from there, I put it into reality,” she said.
The daughter of an engineer and a professional artist, Deborah was surrounded by the constants of art and design throughout her upbringing, sketching out floor plans and doodling layouts just for fun.
She graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in interior design, and, to add to her versatility, also earned a culinary certificate from Michigan State University.
Today, in addition to assisting clients at the Gorman’s Home Furnishings showroom in Troy, Deborah co-owns an art gallery in Rochester Hills with her mother, providing a space to showcase dozens of local artists.
Deborah considers her personal style to be eclectic and fun, but she ultimately finds design inspiration from her clients.
