The owner’s personalities should inform the design of their homes, Interior Designer Dawn Newkirk believes, and so she takes the time to know her clients. Working with their tastes and creating designs that are reflective of their personalities, as opposed to simply following the latest trends, ensures a lasting “homey feel” for them.
With more than 35 years of industry experience, Dawn is well-versed in all facets of management, marketing and interior design. After receiving a certification in interior design from Alexander Tech in Alexander, Minnesota, Dawn got her start in Naples, Florida, as an assistant to a top designer at Robb and Stucky Furniture, where she worked her way up to visual display director.
In 1995, Dawn brought her experience to Murrow Furniture Galleries in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she worked as a sales manager for ten years. In 2010, she joined the Gorman’s team, serving as the director of fashion merchandising – creating lifestyle displays and purchasing accessories for the company’s four showrooms. Dawn has since shifted to Gorman’s design team, helping clients bring the spaces they’ve envisioned to life.
Dawn’s design work has been published in “USA Today,” “Furniture Today” and in “Hour Magazine,” among other metro Detroit publications. She stays current by visiting the furniture markets, getting a glimpse at future industry trends that are coming down the pipeline.
